The prices for custom preamps vary wildly. Some people want a good tube preamp for as cheap as possible. Some people want it fully loaded with all the possible features and esoteric components. Please keep this in mind. The prices below are intended to give you an idea of the price ranges for my preamps as of Jan 2010.
Single channel preamps usually run from $700 to $950. The dual mono units are from $950 to $1450. The LAmpex goes for $1350 to $2000. The reason for this wide swing on the LAmpex is because the best transformers for the LA2A cost around $400 just for the 2 transformers.
The prices will sometimes be higher but rarely lower. Things like suitcase mounting with Aluminum faceplates can push the price up. These prices are for when I supply everything. If you have a 601, I will either customize it for you, or you may trade it in for credit when your unit is finished. I recommend this because you will get to use it while I am building your unit.
$250 credit - This is for a 601 based on the 6267 (EF86) tubes, in good clean condition with all its tubes and:
Including a good 580022 or 17331 Ampex microphone transformer.
Including the small output transformer.
Including a fully working power transformer and choke.
Including a working meter and no damage issues.
It does not need to be working well or at all. The customer has to pay to ship it to me, usually around $20 in the lower 48. (I'm in Texas) If the mic transformer is missing: $150 credit. If it has 5879 tubes, that lowers its value by $40. The 600 and the 602 are worth less than the 601, somewhere around $150 depending on condition.
Backlog: At the time of this writing (Jan 2010,) there is about a 3 - 4 month waiting time for preamp orders. A 20% deposit is req'd when I start the work, with the balance due when the unit is ready to ship. The customer will forfeit the deposit if they do not complete the transaction within 30 days from the time they are notified the unit is ready to ship. I accept Paypal, checks and MO.
Performance Prices
I base my performance fees on how much time is involved. A basic saxophone/flute solo on a song will cost $50 to $100. Full horn arrangements will be more depending on complexity, but at the present time I am committed to maintaining prices low enough for unsigned and indie musicians to afford. Guitar, keyboard, bass, and drum parts will be similarly priced with discounts for multiple tracks. My tracks will be delivered in whatever format the customer wants. Please
so I can hear your song and your ideas and I will quote a firm price.
Pay When You're Happy
This means that you pay nothing until after I've done the work and you are happy (preferably thrilled ;) with the result. I will post a sample file for your approval before you pay. If someone asks for a mix and then refuses the final product, I will not accept future requests from them barring special circumstances.
My preferred method of payment is PAYPAL. I accept Credit card payments through Paypal. Your credit card info is kept secure because I never have it. This allows me to accept credit cards without the issues of protecting customer information on my server. Checks and money orders via mail are fine too.
